It covers three quarters of our planet and makes up two thirds of our bodies. The island on which I live is surrounded by it and I am constantly engaged in childish fascination with it . The sea, water and reflection are major themes in this new series.

When we are in the company of water, whether it be rivers, swimming pools or the ocean, human beings are often at their most leisurely and carefree. The swimming pool photos are a way of extending the storytelling to illustrate the scope for play which water provides.
The reflections in the compositions are reflected a second time like a kaleidoscope and the artwork is in conversation with the subject itself.

A number of the works reference Alice in wonderland. Lewis Carol was a regular visitor to the Isle of Wight, the island where I live and work. The majority of Victorian literature written for children before Alice's Adventures in Wonderland were fairy tales that carried moral messages and instructions. Alice is completely different in its celebration of reckless adventure and an indulgence in the pure pleasures of the imagination.

I work mainly with paper. For me it is a material charged with emotion and familiarity.
A birthday card, a thumbed paperback and a scribbled note are all often sources of inspiration.
Since I was small I have made sense of my experiences by scrap booking and my current work is an evolution of this simple childhood activity.

Each work is attached to a birch ply substrate with a minimal aluminium edge. The paper is unglazed to reveal its natural texture and varnished in protective UV ultra matt transparent resin varnish.
