Working with various metals in all their contrasting properties of texture and finish, Mark Beattie can make industrial metal appear fluid, malleable and delicate. He continues to study different metals, looking at ways to manipulate and add movement to the material. Over the past 3 years he has been developing ways in which neon or LEDs can complement his sculptures, adding movement to a piece and catching the viewer’s eye.
Beattie has a strong academic background in art, having studied a BA Hons (International) in Contemporary Art Practice at Leeds University. As part of his undergraduate degree he spent a year studying at Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. Whilst studying in the Sculpture Department, Beattie learnt new skills and experimented with different sculpting techniques. More recently he has completed an MA in European Arts Practice at Kingston University, Surrey.
