This current body of work is informed by the natural world and forces such as tidal, gravitational, seasonal and chronological.
I walk most days along the coastline near my studio and document the changing horizon. I'm interested in how natural environments effect the psychology of human beings and the rituals we invent in order to interact with the natural world. I work mainly with paper. For me it is a material charged with emotion and familiarity. A birthday card, a thumbed paperback and a scribbled note are all often sources of inspiration. Since I was small I have made sense of my experiences by scrap booking and my current work is an evolution of this simple childhood activity. Each work is attached to a birch ply substrate with a minimal aluminium edge. The paper is unglazed to reveal its natural texture and varnished in protective UV
